Withens Clough Reservoir, Cragg Vale

Address: The postcode for directions is HX7 5TD. From Mytholmroyd, take the B6138 (Cragg Road) towards Cragg Vale. After two miles, turn right onto Church Bank Lane, which then becomes Rudd Lane. After a further quarter of a mile, keep right to stay on Rudd Lane, which later becomes Withens New Road and after a mile you will find the car park for the reservoir on the left.

Opening times: Open all the time.

Admission: Free

Detail: Withens Clough Reservoir is situated six miles south of Hebden Bridge and sits below Stoodley Pike. The walk around the reservoir is 1.5 miles in length and is fairly flat, with no steps or stiles, although the walk from the car park to the start of the walk is up a mildly steep road. This makes it an ideal walk for those with toddlers and young children and you will be rewarded with view of the open moorland and Stoodley Pike. Some paths are unsurfaced and so wear appropriate footwear. The walk is also open to the elements, so wrap up warm.

Those seeking a more challenging walk, can undertake the circular walk to Stoodley Pike from the reservoir, which is 4.5 miles in length and takes approximately 3 hours. A map of the walk can be found on Yorkshire Water's website below.

Wheelchair/Pram friendly: Although the walk is fairly flat, some of the paths are unsurfaced, making it unsuitable for prams and wheelchairs.

Parking and any fees: There is a free car park at the starting point of the walk, which is on Withens New Road/Rudd Lane, 300 metres before the reservoir embankment on the left. Please note, there is a 1.8 metre height barrier.

Facilities and refreshment options:  There are currently no open toilets on the site. However, the Hinchcliffe Arms is situated on Church Bank Lane and serves food and drinks. Alternatively you can travel back into Mytholmroyd for further refreshment options.
