Standedge Tunnel

Address: Standedge Tunnel Waters Road, Marsden, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, HD7 6NQ.

Getting there:  Marsden Station is a 15 minute walk away from the tunnel. The 184 bus runs between Oldham and Huddersfield.

 

Opening times: TBC

Distance: The walk to the tunnel from the station takes around 15-30 minutes. There is a diversion into some woodland along the way, which runs alongside the direction of the canal. Once at the tunnel, there is a nature trail you can follow to the right of the cafe, across the green. You will see a gap in the wall. 

Wheelchair/Pram friendly: The canal side walk to the tunnel is pram and wheelchair friendly. There are disabled toilets in the visitors' centre. 

Additional activities: Standedge Tunnel is Britain's longest, deepest, highest canal tunnel.. The visitors' centre is free. Boat rides are available at a cost. There is a soft play area in the cafe and a playground outside the visitors' centre.   

Parking and any fees: Free parking is available at Marsden Station (HD7 6DH). From there, you walk along the canal towards the Tunnel. Disabled parking is available at the visitor centre 

Facilities and refreshment options: There is a lovely cafe located by the edge of the water. Toilets can be found in the café and visitor centre. Picnic benches and benches are dotted along the walk and by the visitor centre.
