Holcombe Hill & Peel Tower

Address: Holcombe Village, Ramsbottom, Bury, Greater Manchester BL8 4LZ (takes you to the Shoulder of Mutton pub)

Getting there: The nearest train station is Ramsbottom ELR. The 472/474 buses can be taken from Bury to Ramsbttom.

Opening times: Route is open every day. 

 

Distance: A fairly easy walk to Peel Tower starts at the Shoulder of Mutton pub on Moor Road in Holcombe Village. From there walk to Cross Lane and then Moorbottom Road, to take the track then to Peel Tower, which is signposted. There is a further 6 mile circular walk that starts at Ramsottom ELR station (see walk link below).

Wheelchair/Pram friendly: No.

Additional activities: Unfortunately Peel Tower is rarely opened. It is sometimes opened by volunteers on a Sunday, in which case there will be a white flag flying from the top of the tower. If you wish to check opening times in advance, telephone the Bury Tourist Information Centre on 0161 253 5111.

 

Parking and any fees: You can park at the Shoulder of Mutton pub if you are planning to drink/eat there. There is on street parking on Cross Lane, Lumb Carr Road and Chapel Lane. There is also a car park situated on Lumb Carr Road.  

Facilities and refreshment options: Food can be purchased at the Shoulder of Mutton pub or there are a number of cafes and pubs in Ramsbottom town centre.
